John Turner
John R. Turner, Ph.D., is an assistant professor at the University of North Texas for the Department of Learning Technologies in the College of Information. He currently serves as the Editor–in–Chief for the Performance Improvement Quarterly (PIQ) journal.
I am the co-author of The Flow System: The Evolution of Agile and Lean Thinking in an Age of Complexity, The Flow System Guide, and The Flow System: Key Principles and Attributes. I am the co-founder of The Flow System, The Flow Consortium LLC, and Performance Development Network LLC.
I began my career in engineering where I served for 15 years. During this time I was employed with Asea Brown Boveri (ABB) and Alstom. During my tenure with ABB, I worked for approximately 2-1/2 years internationally in China, South Korea, and Argentina. After returning back to school to continue my education, I achieved my Ph.D. from the University of North Texas where I now teach. I have been lucky to have obtained four advanced degrees from Maine Maritime Academy (B.S. Mechanical Engineering Technology), The University of Arkansas at Little Rock (B.S. Psychology), The University of Texas at Tyler (M.S. Human Resource Development), and the University of North Texas (Ph.D. in Applied Technology and Performance Improvement).
My main research interests are in the intersection between complexity thinking, distributed leadership, and team science. Associated research interests include team effectiveness, multiteam systems, team cognition, functional leadership, boundary spanner roles, theory building, and multilevel model development.
I have published a number of book chapters and research articles in Advances in Developing Human Resources; Human Resource Development Review; European Journal of Training & Development; International Journal of Technology, Knowledge, & Society; Journal of Information and Knowledge Management; Journal of Manufacturing Technology Management; Journal of Knowledge Management; New Horizons in Adult Education & Human Resource Development; The Irish Journal of Technology Enhanced Learning; Performance Improvement; Performance Improvement Quarterly; and Systems.
